Your ear irrigation appointment

Your path to better hearing starts here

Initial
Consultation

Your journey to better hearing begins with a comprehensive consultation. A full history is taken to identify potential underlying conditions, and an ear examination is conducted to determine if earwax build-up is the cause of your symptoms, such as hearing loss or discomfort.

If wax build-up is evident, you’ll be advised to instill olive oil to the affected ear(s) for a minimum of 7 days to soften the wax. This step ensures safe and effective ear irrigation.

Important Note:

Ear irrigation is only safe when wax has been softened. Attempting to remove hard wax can increase the risk of complications, including eardrum perforation.

Your Follow-Up Appointment

Once the wax has been adequately softened, a follow-up appointment will be arranged to proceed with the ear irrigation procedure. During this appointment, I will carefully assess the condition of your ears to confirm that the wax is ready to be safely removed.

The irrigation process is performed using NHS recognised equipment and is designed to be both gentle and effective. I will ensure you feel comfortable and informed throughout the procedure, taking care to address any concerns or questions you may have. This second visit is the final step in restoring clarity to your hearing and relieving associated symptoms like discomfort or fullness in the ears.

What is Ear Irrigation?

Ear irrigation is a straightforward, painless procedure designed to gently flush out excess wax, improving your hearing and relieving discomfort. This modern method is much safer than using cotton buds or other home remedies, which can push wax further into the ear canal or cause injury. The process involves:

Flushing softened wax out of the ear canal using a specialised electronic irrigator.

The irrigator provides a controlled, gentle stream of warm water to dislodge and remove wax build-up.

Relief is typically immediate, with many clients noticing an improvement in hearing and a reduction in discomfort right away.
